According to police, it happened just after 3:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 1100 block of W. Las Olas Boulevard.
Police said two police vehicles collided with each other, causing one of the vehicles to catch fire. The other police vehicle slammed into a pole.
According to police, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene and transported both officers to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The burned out patrol SUV was later towed away outside Westside Market.
The front and back of the SUV was completely smashed. There was also damage to the front of the corner store.
“It looks like it’s bad,” the store owner told Local 10 News.
The owner, who did not want to share her name, is still piecing together the details.
She said she woke up to a call from a neighbor, but the damage wasn’t her main concern.
“I hope the police officer is OK,” she said. “Because they’re so important to me.”
Police confirmed the officers were responding to the area after receiving a request for assistance from the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
FLPD said both officers sustained minor injuries and are expected to make full recoveries.
