Four persons were killed and three others injured after a car rammed into several two-wheelers and overturned on a flyover in Ambernath town of Maharashtra’s Thane District on Friday evening, news agency PTI reported, quoting police.
The accident took place around 7.15 pm on the flyover that connects the eastern part of the town to its western side. Police said the impact of the collision was so severe that one of the two-wheeler riders was flung into the air and fell onto the road beneath the flyover.
“The driver of the car reportedly lost control and the vehicle collided with four to five two-wheelers before overturning,” a police officer said.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Shailesh Kale of Ambarnath informed that four persons, including the driver of the car, died in the crash. The two-wheelers involved were completely crushed, he added. Efforts are under way to establish the identities of the victims, PTI reported.
Three others sustained injuries and are reported to be out of danger. They have been admitted to hospitals for treatment.
The bodies of the victims have been sent to a government hospital for post-mortem examination, police said.
BMW hit-and-run case: Bombay HC denies bail to Mihir Shah; says he ‘remorselessly’ failed to stop car
The Bombay High Court (HC) on Friday rejected the bail plea of Mihir Shah, son of a former Shiv Sena leader, in the 2024 BMW hit-and-run case, observing that he was heavily intoxicated and showed no remorse as he continued driving even after crashing into a scooter and dragging the victim under the vehicle, news agency PTI reported.
A single bench of Justice Neela Gokhale said the conduct of the accused — both during the incident and in its aftermath — did not inspire confidence for granting bail.
Shah was arrested on July 9 last year, two days after he allegedly rammed his BMW into a two-wheeler in Mumbai’s Worli area, killing 45-year-old Kaveri Nakhwa and injuring her husband, Pradeep Nakhwa.
His driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, who was also in the vehicle at the time, was arrested the same day as the accident. Both men remain in judicial custody.
The high court noted in its order that although the initial collision may have been accidental, Shah sped away “at high speed”, dragging the victim beneath the car.
