NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – As 2026 approaches, law enforcement agencies are increasing security measures in and around the French Quarter.
From Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2025, through Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, Louisiana State Police troopers, along with agents from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and other state agencies, will support the City of New Orleans, the New Orleans Police Department and the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office. Officials said there will be a strong law enforcement presence throughout the French Quarter, including along Bourbon Street.
Troopers will also work with the Louisiana National Guard to enforce the French Quarter Enhanced Security Zone, which has been used during previous major events, including the Super Bowl, Carnival and the Bayou Classic. The zone spans Canal Street to St. Ann Street and runs between Royal and Dauphine streets.
Several restrictions are in place within the security zone. Backpack coolers and ice chests are prohibited. Bags larger than about 4.5 by 6.5 inches are discouraged and may be searched before entry. Vehicles are not allowed inside the zone except for emergency purposes. Hotel guests staying on Bourbon Street are encouraged to use Royal or Dauphine streets for access. Proof of hotel reservation and identification may be required. Anyone who refuses a search will be denied entry.
State police also reminded drone operators to check airspace restrictions and follow all federal, state and local regulations. The Federal Aviation Administration has issued a temporary flight restriction for drones in the New Orleans area from 2 p.m. Dec. 31 through 4 a.m. Jan. 1, and again from 6 p.m. through one hour after the Allstate Sugar Bowl ends.
Officials noted the upcoming one-year anniversary of a deadly attack in the city and urged residents and visitors to remain vigilant.
Authorities encouraged the public to report suspicious activity and be aware of warning signs, including surveillance, information gathering, testing security, acquiring supplies, suspicious behavior, trial runs and deploying assets.

Louisiana State Police encouraged everyone to stay safe, make responsible decisions and have a safe New Year’s celebration.
