GB3 has announced that the Tatuus MSV GB3-025 car introduced this season will receive an upgrade package in 2026.
The fastest laptimes on most circuits have been around a second quicker compared to what was achieved with the preceding Tatuus MSV GB3-022 car last season, but there has been a feeling among teams and drivers there is more to be unlocked.
A heavily revised engine, as well as chassis and bodywork changes, will be introduced next year with the aim of improving both performance and reliability.
Mountune will upgrade its two-litre engine to a 2.4-litre unit, bringing a 25% increase in torque, while chassis modifications are expected to result in weight reduction, increased downforce, less drag and make it more resilient against kerb damage.
“The Tatuus MSV GB3-025 cars introduced for this season have already established new lap records at the majority of circuits visited in 2025, but we know that there is further performance in the cars that can be extracted with our upgrade programme,” said Jonathan Palmer, chief executive of GB3 promoter MotorSport Vision.
“Equally important, we have focused on striving for perfect reliability too. As is inevitable with a first season with a new car, we have discovered a few areas that we can improve on and have been fully committed to addressing these.
“Having worked closely with our teams, chassis designer Tatuus and our engine manufacturer Mountune, the 2026-specification GB3 car will build on the already impressive performance levels seen this year.
“We are determined that GB3 should be the leading championship in Europe for drivers to develop and prove themselves before joining Formula 3 in the Formula 1 support paddock.
“As part of our commitment to outstanding value in GB3, the majority of these upgrades are being delivered free of charge to our teams, therefore ensuring that these costs are not passed on to the drivers participating in next year’s championship.”
GB3 becomes the latest series in single-seaters’ fourth tier to announce major technial changes for 2026. The second generation of Formula Regional cars will debut in several championships, after eight years of Gen1 chassis being in use.
