Genesis just revealed its most ambitious pitch ever and it’s gunning for the big dogs. Say hello to the wicked and slick-looking Magma GT Concept.
If you initially thought, “dang, that looks like a Koenigsegg,” you wouldn’t be wrong. Because the Magma GT Concept is essentially the Korean automaker taking direct aim at the likes of Ferrari, Porsche and all the other mid-engine supercars.
Although the Los Angeles Auto Show is currently in full swing, Genesis decided to reveal the Magma GT Concept in France. But better yet, all to truly get the attention of some of Europe’s finest.
It was only a few months ago when Genesis announced its big ambitions to enter the performance car leagues at the New York Auto Show. Not only does the Korean luxury carmaker want to be taken seriously, both on the street and in motorsports.
It also wants to become a performance icon, similar to the European and Japanese luxury performance brands with its Magma lineup. Now, the Magma GT Concept is proof that its ambitions are coming to fruition.
Genesis might have revealed the Magma GT Concept in full as a potential pitch for a new supercar. But it makes a broader statement.
In addition to the concept, the Hyundai’s luxury division also officially revealed the GV60 Magma in tandem. And the message is simple: the Koreans are coming for BMW M, Mercedes-AMG, Audi RS and Lexus F.
“The Magma GT Concept represents the pinnacle of our performance vision and stands as a symbol of our commitment to true motorsport capability,” said Genesis’ Chief Creative Officer and former head of design at Bentley, Luc Donckerwolke.
“It isn’t defined by raw aggression or uncompromising speed—it is defined by balance. This is a car that feels instinctively connected to its driver, composed under pressure, and meticulously tuned so that every component serves a single purpose: to make performance effortless.”
While the Magma GT Concept showcases Genesis’ new performance direction, it also represents how the automaker is truly reaching for the stars. It wants to aim for the likes of Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini and perhaps, all the other supercar makers.
That’s because the Magma GT Concept boasts the sort of engineering that could only be found in that corner of the auto industry. Such includes a low-slung, road-hugging body, two seats and a potent engine in the middle. And its butterfly-style gullwing-like doors are just absolutely inspiring.
Genesis didn’t share any technical specifics, as the Magma GT Concept remains in the prototype stages. But it’s a complete car, both inside and out, that’s drivable and fully functional.
And because it appears almost production-ready, we can only hope Genesis makes it. Because who can say no to more automotive diversity?
“Genesis achieved one million global sales faster than any luxury marque in history. Magma represents our declaration that the next ten years will be even more significant,” Hyundai Motor Company’s CEO, José Muñoz, said in his statement.
“We’re not just building high-performance vehicles; we’re redefining what a luxury high performance brand can be when Korean innovation meets global ambition.”
