A new report suggests the G70 isn’t being discontinued just yet, with subtle updates pointing to an extended future
It’s been a few years since the Kia Stinger made its quiet exit, and for a while, it seemed like the Genesis G70 wouldn’t be far behind. As the market shifted and production timelines tightened, many expected this rear-wheel-drive sports sedan to bow out alongside its cousin.
Now, a new report out of South Korea suggests the G70 may actually stick around longer than originally expected.

According to local sources, Genesis recently wrapped up emissions and noise certifications for an updated version of the G70 in its domestic market. If accurate, this would mark the car’s most substantial update since its initial facelift in late 2020.
Minor Revival or Major Rework?
No official word has emerged regarding exterior design changes, and truthfully, expectations are low. In a perfect world, the refreshed G70 would borrow a few cues from the recent G80 Wingback concept. That could mean slimmer, sharper split headlights and a front grille that looks a touch less bulky. Whether those ideas make it past the drawing board remains to be seen.
The report from Korea’s TopRider, also claims the updated G70 needed a slight weight gain to comply with tightened crash safety regulations. Alongside that, Genesis is said to be tweaking its engine lineup, with efficiency improvements at the forefront.
Powertrain Tweaks Incoming
Under the skin, the updated G70 is expected to keep its current range of engines. That includes the 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 304 horsepower, and the 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 rated at 370 horsepower. The familiar eight-speed automatic transmission should carry over as well, along with the choice of rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.
Of course, just because the Genesis G70 may live on in South Korea, that doesn’t mean it will continue to be sold elsewhere. CarScoops has contacted Genesis to verify the accuracy of the reported updates and to find out whether this refreshed model might be offered in the United States.
