DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa (WHP) — A man died on his way to the hospital after a shooting and subsequent crash just before noon Tuesday.
According to emergency dispatchers, crews were called to a reported crash near the old Holy Family Church at South 25th and Burma Streets around 11:47 a.m.
Simultaneously, crews were responding to reports of a shooting just a few blocks down at South 26th and Duke Streets. Officials confirmed the shooting was connected to the crash.
"I will say that it was a very, very prompt response," said neighbor Sonia Magaro. "They had the area secured very, very quickly."
Officials said that a man was shot before driving away from the scene to escape. It was while driving off that the man crashed the car into two parked cars at the South 25th and Burma Streets intersection, officials stated.
Magaro said she wasn't sure what was going on until she heard the massive police response in her area.
"Obviously, with it being a windy day, I just thought it was some things rolling around," she said. "This part of the city is a little bit quiet, so when you do hear something, you wait a couple of minutes to come outside, make sure everything is okay."
The man was shot in the middle of his body and passed away while being transported, according to Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo.
A suspect has not been arrested in connection to the deadly shooting. Police say there is no danger to the public as the homicide investigation is underway.
Neighbors, however, are still left on edge, feeling the incident happening too close to home.
"It's a little bit crazy. Unfortunately, you know, something that needs to be addressed bigger and bigger with the city is crime. It's coming closer and closer to neighborhoods (where) we just don't want to see it," Magaro said.
