HARDEEVILLE, SC (WTOC) – Thanks to a higher-than-usual amount of car break-ins reported, the Hardeevile Police Department is launching a new public safety initiative.
The new Hardeeville Police initiative is called the 9 PM Routine and will consist of reminders that go out nightly at 9:00 p.m. encouraging residents to lock their car doors, remove valuables, and secure their homes.
This initiative is aimed at reducing opportunities for crime and strengthening community awareness, the Hardeeville Police Department said in a press release.
Officials say that since August 31, officers have responded to 15 reported incidents of car break-ins in the area.
Suspects are targeting not only firearms but also cash and other valuables left inside vehicles, the press release states.
The 9:00 p.m. reminder will be shared on social media every night.
