A 16-year-old passenger was killed Sunday night in a crash off U.S. Highway 64 near Shepherds Vineyard Drive in Apex. Two other teenagers were injured, including the driver, who faces charges.
The passenger who died was 16-year-old Jhony Villatoro-Ramos, a junior at Mary Phillips High School, which is east of St. Augustine’s college and less than a mile from William G. Enloe High School.

Apex police responded to the crash on U.S. 64 near Knollwood Drive around 10:30 p.m.
According to police, a white Chevrolet Malibu traveling eastbound on U.S. 64 was speeding when it went off the road, became airborne and rolled several times. 
Villatoro-Ramos was in the backseat when he was partially ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, police said. A 17-year-old driver and a second passenger, a 16-year-old, who was riding in the front seat, were transported to an area hospital with injuries.
Apex police charged the teenage driver with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. He did not have a license, police said, and additional charges are possible.
A police officer at the scene told WRAL News that two trees are blocked the tow truck from removing the car from the wooded area for several hours. The car wasn’t removed until 6 a.m., after a second tow truck arrived on scene.
