The California Department of Transportation will begin work to repair damage caused by a sinkhole beneath Highway 29 on Jan. 15, replacing a culvert and stabilizing a portion of the road between Oakville and Rutherford in Napa County.
As a result, one-way traffic control will be in place in the area located just south of Glos Lane while work proceeds in January and February. CalTrans later on in the construction process will shut down the highway in that location, necessitating a detour to Silverado Trail, according to a news release.
The work in the area located just south of Glos Lane will initially take place at night, between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., from Jan. 15 to Jan. 17, according to a news release. Work crews will take Sunday off, then resume the same schedule for the following five days.
Starting on Jan. 22, continuous one-way traffic control will be in place in the area for three weeks while crews remove the existing culvert and replace it with a cast-in-place box culvert. Work is expected to proceed into the spring, according to the release, though an exact schedule wasn’t immediately available.
The sinkhole near the center of the roadway was discovered on Sept. 11. Caltrans added a temporary patch to the area, and shifted traffic partially to the shoulders of the roads.
Drivers should expect to see delays in the area while work to repair the road proceeds, the release says.
