A new, very Houston addition to Discovery Green's fall festival is gaining attention on social media. 
The Houston Pumpkin Festival has expanded attractions after nearly 100,000 people attended last year.

New for 2025 is a kid-size purple slab convertible surrounded by pumpkins. Created specifically for the festival by High Cut Tint, the car features swangas and rocks back and forth.
Smart City Apartments, a real estate company, posted a video of the car on social media, drawing more than 400,000 views.

Discovery Green marketing director Frankie Ortega said the organization takes every possible chance to shine a light on Houston culture, whether it's the Art Car sneak peek, Houston artists or the slab cars that started in the city. 
Slab custom cars originated in Houston’s Black communities in the 1980s, according to previous Houston Chronicle reporting. A slab typically features extended wire-spoke rims known as “swangas,” heavy-bass sound systems and candy-paint exteriors.

“It’s just a great example of Houston creativity and to have a piece of that at the Houston Pumpkin Festival is really cool," Ortega said. "People love to see Houston culture and respond to Houston culture."

Other new attractions include a concessions area, a carousel, a large slide and a human hamster roll. The pumpkin-themed festival also features a massive, 2,000-square-foot bouncy pumpkin for guests.

The festival's last day is Nov. 2 and it runs seven days a week from Monday through Thursday, 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
