A huge new multi-storey car park with 398 spaces has opened in Gloucester today (Monday, December 22) just in time for some late Christmas shopping.
Managed by Q-Park, the car park on Station Road is part of The Forum project and features 38 electric vehicle (EV) charging points, with potential to convert more spaces to EV in the future, and 15 disabled spaces.
It offers 24/7 barriered access and ticketless parking, with pre-booking available online.
The car park, a key component of the £107m development by Gloucester City Council and developers Reef + Partners, will provide high-quality, secure, and sustainable parking for The Forum and for the wider city centre.
The car park features one of the region’s largest living walls, a 600 square metre vertical garden that stretches around two sides of the building.
This striking feature is made up of more than 4,800 panels and 48,000 individual plants, which are set to capture the same amount of carbon as 32 trees.
The living wall also improves biodiversity, boosts air quality, and helps with temperature control by cooling the building in the summer.
Councillor Jeremy Hilton, leader of Gloucester City Council, said: “The opening of the car park is an exciting milestone in our development, and it will be just in time to welcome shoppers and visitors to our city this Christmas.
"We know there’s a huge demand for parking, and this new multi-storey will go some way to meeting that, as well as being modern, secure, and sustainable, with the ability to cater for electric vehicles.”
The Forum is transforming the city centre and includes 135,000 sq ft of Grade A office space, a 4* Hotel Indigo (IHG Hotels), residential apartments, and retail units.
Q-Park Gloucester offers pedestrian access onto Cathedral Walk, the public space between the two buildings which features Forest of Dean stones and planting inspired by the city’s Roman, medieval, and late Victorian history.
Peter Langly-Smith, managing director of Reef + Partners, said: “Q-Park has a strong reputation for delivering secure, clean, and innovative parking facilities, and they have delivered exactly that here at The Forum.
“With premium offices, co-working space, Hotel Indigo, residential apartments, and retail space, all connecting to the wider Kings Quarter, it was vital that ample parking was available on site, and we’ve embraced this – Q-Park Gloucester supports accessibility, sustainability and connectivity.”
Adam Bidder, Managing Director of Q-Park UK, commented: “We are thrilled to be able to open our first parking facility in Gloucester within the prestigious The Forum development.
"We look forward to welcoming our first customers into the car park where we can demonstrate the quality service that we offer.”
Prices start from £2.70 for up to two hours to £12 for up to 24 hours.
