Hyundai is planning a major expansion of its CNG lineup in India over the next five years. The automaker is set to introduce three new CNG cars by 2030, which will double the number of CNG models in its range. Currently, Hyundai has a few CNG options like the Grand i10 Nios, Aura, and Exter, but with this upcoming lineup, the company plans to increase its CNG sales to 20% by FY30, up from 13% in FY25.

Hyundai’s push for eco-friendly cars in India is growing stronger, and CNG vehicles are at the heart of this strategy. By 2030, Hyundai plans to add three new CNG-powered models to its portfolio, bringing the total number of CNG options to six. These new cars are expected to meet the growing demand for fuel-efficient and eco-friendly vehicles in India.

While Hyundai hasn’t confirmed the exact models yet, several popular cars could make the transition to CNG. The Hyundai i20, for example, could be a strong candidate for a CNG powertrain. Given that competitors like the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, and Tata Altroz already offer CNG variants, Hyundai is likely to introduce the same option for the i20 to stay competitive in the market.

Hyundai Venue, another popular model in the compact SUV segment, could also get a CNG version. This move would make sense, especially since its rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Tata Nexon have already launched their own CNG-powered versions. As the demand for compact SUVs with greener fuel options increases, the Venue could be an ideal candidate for a CNG setup.

Hyundai is also expected to launch a Bayon-based crossover in India by 2026. This new model, likely to share its underpinnings with the i20, will sport a more crossover-like design. Along with its turbo-petrol engine, this compact SUV could be another strong candidate for a CNG powertrain.

For now, Hyundai’s Grand i10 Nios, Aura, and Exter are the only models in the lineup offering a CNG powertrain. These cars are equipped with a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder engine, producing 69 horsepower and 95Nm of torque in CNG mode. They come with a 5-speed manual transmission, making them affordable and efficient choices for those looking for a greener, more economical alternative.

As the Indian market evolves, Hyundai’s upcoming CNG cars in India will likely play a significant role in shaping the future of green mobility. Whether it’s the popular i20, the compact Venue, or the new crossover model, Hyundai is set to make a strong impact in India’s growing CNG vehicle segment.
