An arrest affidavit provides new details in the death of an infant girl who had been left in a car unattended for an extended period on Tuesday, police say.
Late Tuesday evening, Rockwall Police arrested Camerone Leichman, 36, for injury to a child, reckless serious bodily injury, a second-degree felony.

According to charging documents, Leichman left the six-month-old baby in a car for “eight hours unattended,” adding that “the reckless conduct caused the death of the infant.”
Investigators determined that Leichman just recently became a caregiver to the baby girl, who has been identified by the family as Rymedi I’Care Worth.

Police say Leichman failed to drop the child off at a local daycare after taking his “common-law wife” to work at the high school.
Instead, police say he drove back home to the 100 block of Sunfish Dr. in Rockwall.
According to a press release issued by police on Wednesday, “the child is believed to have remained inside the vehicle for several hours while it was parked at their residence. When Leichman returned to pick up his common-law wife from the school, the child was found unresponsive in the back seat.’
The latest news from around North Texas.
Police and paramedics were called to a parking lot at Rockwall Heath High School at about 4:40 p.m. in reference to a “welfare concern,” where the caller reported an unconscious child had been found in a car seat in the back right passenger compartment of a 2006 Mercedes-Benz R35, according to the affidavit.
Medics took the child’s temperature and registered it at 107 degrees, according to the affidavit.
There was nothing else they could do.
The affidavit stated that “no treatment was provided to the infant as she was obviously deceased.”
NBC 5 located the home on Sunfish Dr., where extended family has been gathering since the incident, and asked the child’s family if they would like to speak out about the baby, what happened, and the man arrested in her death.
Ebony Frazier agreed to speak on behalf of the child’s mother, who is her cousin.
“I ask that everybody just send our condolences, say a prayer. Keep Cam in your prayers,” she said, referring to the man arrested by police. “Unfortunately, at this time, it was an unforeseen accident. Right now, the family is just grieving.”
When asked to describe Rymedi, Frazier smiled and said, “That was a beautiful baby, and she looked just like her momma’s twin. That baby was considered everybody’s baby– Joyful, beautiful, and when she cried, Cam could get her to be quiet, no matter walking her, holding her, whatever.”
Frazier says what happened was a horrible accident and says Leichman cared for the child and always dropped her off at daycare.
“He takes the child to and from daycare, picks her up, no problems,” she said. “He’s good with her. Nothing bad I can say besides it was just an accident.”
Leichman was booked into the Rockwall County Detention Center and charged on Tuesday night. According to jail records, a bond amount has not yet been set. It’s unclear if he’s obtained an attorney.
Family told NBC 5 on Wednesday that the infant was in a rear-facing car seat, as is state law, perhaps indicating how she may not have been seen by the driver.
The family is asking for privacy. Frazier said, “A lot of people are going to have their opinion about any situation when they’re not in the situation. But at this time, it was an accident, and it happens, and unfortunately, the family is trying to cope with it and come to the realization that she’s actually gone.”
The Rockwall Police Department is leading the investigation through its Criminal Investigation Division.
