MOTT HAVEN, The Bronx (WABC) — Passengers were forced to evacuate after three cars on a 4 train became detached from the rest of the train.
The MTA says just after 5 p.m. Sunday the third and fourth cars of the southbound 4 train detached near the 149th Street-Grand Concourse station.
A rescue train was sent to the scene so passengers could then transfer from the disabled train to the platform.
No injuries were reported, but it proved nerve wracking for a mother whose 14-year-old son was stuck on the train.
"He's hyperventilating, panicking. And I'm just waiting for my son to go to the train right now. Honestly, I've been standing here for over an hour waiting for my son to get off this train, and he's 14 years old," she said.
It is unclear how many people were on the train at the time, but what is clear is that there were lots of delays and detours for riders as service was partially shut down on the 4 and 5 lines.
"It's very alarming, and it's scary for passengers," said Charlton D'souza, President of Passengers United.
All passengers were able to exit the station safely.
It is unclear how the detachment occurred.
