Recent rumors that a hybrid model will be offered alongside Jaguar’s brand-new flagship EV have been dismissed as “rubbish,” according to a report from Autocar. The new Jaguar GT, due to be unveiled in full production guise this summer and first teased as the Type 00 Concept back in December 2024, will be the first model in a brand-new line of all-electric vehicles due to be rolled out in 2027.
Many other manufacturers, notably Volvo and Porsche, have started distancing themselves from full electrification. But it looks like Jaguar won’t be u-turning any time soon.
Jaguar is remaking itself as an electric-only brand, starting with a Porsche and Bentley-rivaling GT car on an all-new electric platform.
This past weekend, The Sunday Times in the UK reported that Jaguar engineers had been instructed by nervous JLR higher-ups to develop an alternative combustion powertrain for the GT in the wake of slow demand for all-electric vehicles. Sources close to Autocar, however, have since stated that there is no basis to these rumors, and that Jaguar will remain an EV-only brand as outlined. CarBuzz also reached out to Jaguar for an official comment, and the British brand responded with the following statement:
“Our plans to reinvent Jaguar as an electric-only luxury automotive brand are unchanged. Last month, prototype passenger rides received overwhelmingly positive reactions from global media and we are looking forward to unveiling the first new electric Jaguar later this year.”

The British marque confirmed its all-electric strategy in mid-2024, going so far as to end production of the internal combustion-engined F-Type coupé, and XF and XE sedans that same year, and even pulling sales of its best-selling F-Pace mid-sized SUV in early 2025.
Unveiled in pre-production form at last year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Jaguar GT is set to be joined on the marque’s all-electric line-up by a brand-new sedan and a Bentley Bentayga-rivaling SUV by the end of 2027. Details on the latter models are, understandably, thin on the ground at-present, though Jaguar’s radically-styled four-door ‘super GT,’ which is set to directly rival Porsche’s all-electric Taycan, has more than held its own since its conceptual reveal at Miami Art Week in December 2024.
Even Jaguar dealers are wary of the brand’s EV shift, warning it currently lacks a viable business case.
The concept’s radical Blade Runner/Thunderbirds styling, low profile, and sheer sides, have carried over into the production GT. Curiously, Jaguar has dropped theType nomenclature in the conversion from concept to reality, severing ties to its previous gas-powered sports cars. At its base is Jaguar’s new EV-dedicated JEA architecture, which the brand thinks could offer up to 430 miles of range from a 120-ish kilowatt-hour battery. Up to 200 miles of range could also be available with 15 minutes of charging time.
Power for the GT, meanwhile, comes from a tri-motor setup that could send in excess of 1,000 hp to all four wheels. The undetermined torque-split is believed to be very rear-focused (30% front, 70% rear), and, since the GT is close to 5.5 meters long, rear wheel steering has also been incorporated to improve mid-to-high speed stability. With pre-production testing now complete, customer deliveries in the UK are scheduled to begin in early 2027.
