News broke earlier today that Anthony Joshua had been involved in a car crash along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, Nigeria. Jake Paul has joined many fans in sending prayers to the two-time unified heavyweight world champion and those involved.
According to local reports and eyewitness accounts, the vehicle transporting Joshua — the son of British-Nigerian parents — collided with a stationary truck on the highway that is well known for accidents.
‘AJ’ has been treated in hospital for minor injuries, but two people were pronounced dead at the scene. A statement by The Federal Road Safety Corps said:
“FRSC wishes to confirm a fatal road traffic crash that occurred today Monday, 29 December 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
“Two persons sadly lost their lives, one sustained injuries, while two others escaped unhurt. Anthony Joshua was rescued alive and sustained minor injuries.”
Paul, who co-starred in a money-spinning main event with Joshua less than two weeks ago, took to X with an appropriate message.
“Life is much more important than boxing. I am praying for the lost lives, AJ and anyone impacted by today’s unfortunate accident.”

Paul and ‘AJ’ shared just under six rounds together before the latter produced a knockout blow to end proceedings. 33 million global viewers tuned into the event via Netflix.
Joshua had been set to begin preparations for a February or March return, though it would be understandable that today’s events may impact those plans as he rebounds both physically and mentally.
