A limited-run seven-seat Jeep gets rugged black trim, red accents, and camouflage details in a Japan-exclusive edition
The Jeep Commander, available in a number of global markets but notably absent from American showrooms, isn’t exactly the brand’s headline act. Even so, Jeep has chosen it as the base for a new limited-run variant created exclusively for Japan. Called the Commander Trail Edition, this special model will be limited to just 150 units and features a handful of unique design and trim updates.
This special version is based on the Commander Limited and is finished in Brilliant Black Crystal. The most eye-catching change is a bright red chin spoiler at the front, which adds a bit of contrast to the dark paintwork. Jeep has also swapped out the usual chrome trim pieces for gray and black alternatives, giving the SUV a more subdued, slightly meaner appearance.

Jeep has then plastered on a new Trail badge, complete with a camouflaged design. A set of 18-inch gloss black aluminum wheels also come standard on the model.
A series of updates have also been made to the cabin of the Commander Trail Edition. For starters, there’s now new red trim running across the dashboard and on the steering wheel. Jeep has also added red contrast stitching and a camouflage print
As mentioned, just 150 units will be produced with prices starting at 5,990,000 yen or $44,400.
The Jeep Commander may not be sold in the US, but it does have quite a lot going for it as a seven-seat SUV designed to sit between the Compass and the Grand Cherokee. It is powered exclusively with a 2.0-liter diesel engine in Japan, but in other markets, such as Mexico, it’s equipped with a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder delivering 173 hp and 199 lb-ft (270 Nm) of torque.
