The department has introduced an updated fleet design with upgraded technology aimed at improving response times.
One of the key additions is a system that gives deputies priority at traffic lights, allowing patrol vehicles to move through intersections faster when responding to emergencies.
Chief Deputy Colonel Steve Healey said the update is part of their effort to save money while improving public safety.
“We’re looking for ways we can save money while enhancing public safety, and that’s why you’re seeing the new design for our sheriff’s vehicles,” Healey said.
With multiple inches of snow in the forecast, the sheriff’s office expects an increase in weather-related crashes.
Healey shared advice for drivers heading out in the winter weather.
“Have a care package in your vehicle, blankets, water and an energy pack to charge your phone,” Healey said. “Plan your trip, slow down and give yourself distance from other vehicles.”
If you are involved in a non-injury crash, you can self-report the collision through the Kentucky State Police website.
The sheriff’s office said it currently has one new patrol vehicle, with five more expected to arrive in the new year.
