CONCORD, N.H. (WCAX) – New Hampshire residents might still need to get their cars inspected annually after a federal judge put the elimination of mandatory vehicle inspections on hold.
The law was supposed to go into effect on Saturday, but was blocked after the vendor that runs the state’s car inspection program sued, arguing the new law violates the Clean Air Act.
New Hampshire is now seeking approval from federal regulators to get rid of inspections, but it has not been cleared yet.
U.S. District Judge Landya McCafferty said, “Unless the federal Environmental Protection Agency approves the State’s decision to abolish the inspection program before January 31, the State will be in violation of the Clean Air Act as of that date.”
