Three teenagers were taken into custody Tuesday morning after a series of car break-ins reported in Cary ended in two crashes.
Around 2:45 a.m., officers with the Cary Police Department responded to an apartment complex at Ansley Stream Lane, off N.C. Highway 55 in northwest Cary, where four vehicles were reportedly broken into.
On the way to the scene, officers saw two Kias that matched the description of those responsible for the break-ins. Officers tried to stop the vehicles, which were confirmed as stolen, but the drivers kept going.
Police said a white Kia continued down N.C. 55 in Apex and crashed into an SUV near the intersection of Salem Street and Apex Peakway, where two juveniles were taken into custody. One of the juveniles was taken to a hospital for minor injuries. The SUV driver was not injured.
The second Kia got on U.S. Highway 1 in Cary and took the Walnut Street exit. Police said the driver lost control of the Kia and crashed near the Olive Garden inside Crossroads Plaza. One juvenile was arrested at the crash scene.
The names of the juveniles, who were all under 17, were not released. Charges linked to the offenses include breaking and entering, felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle and felony fleeing to elude. An investigation is ongoing.
