Lancia has ruled out building a brand-new car for the World Rally Championship’s incoming regulation change in 2027.
Question marks remain over the upcoming WRC technical regulations, with the ‘WRC27’ formula looking less and less likely to be ready for widespread rollout in 2027. Toyota is known to be developing a new car to those regulations; M-Sport has said it can’t build a replacement for the Puma Rally1 in time for 2027 and Hyundai has not committed to the new regulations either.

Rally2 cars will be able to compete with WRC27 cars, which could mean Lancia becomes an official factory team at rallying’s highest level for the first time since 1992 with its new Rally2 machine.
However, Lancia Corse director Eugenio Franzetti has made clear that the newly-launched Ypsilon HF Integrale Rally2 is the last rally car Lancia currently plans to launch and that developing a WRC27 car is not in the works.
The Ypsilon HF Integrale Rally2 will debut in 2026, and will remain Lancia’s most capable car in ’27
“For us, we did the Rally2 now, so we will still stay in the Rally2 category,” said Franzetti. “If the Rally2 category will have the opportunity to race for the victory [overall], OK. If not, we will stay in Rally2.
“Honestly, it’s super complicated to have to do an investment after this one to do the new rally car. It’s too early to say, but the idea is to wait for that. So, we did a Rally2, we want to stay in the Rally2 category.

“If the Rally2 category will compete for the victory [overall], we could try to be there – but [only] with the Rally2.”
Lancia will enter two factory-backed cars in at least eight WRC2 rounds next season; PH Sport, which ran Citroën’s works effort this year, will transition to running the Ypsilon HF Integrale.
Its drivers are yet to be announced, though long-time Stellantis driver Yohan Rossel is expected to remain with the team.
