Lando Norris will have a new car number for the 2026 Formula 1 season. Norris will drive the No. 1 car for McLaren in 2026, the driver announced. Max Verstappen has driven the No. 1 car for several years, but the McLaren competitor’s championship allows him to steal the number away.
Previously, Norris has been driving the No. 4 car, but the champion has the right to run the No. 1 car during their next season. In 2025, Norris earned seven wins, 18 podiums, seven poles, and a 4.3 average finishing position during the Formula campaign. It was a stellar season for the 2025 Formula 1 champion.
Norris nearly gave Verstappen his fifth straight Formula 1 championship after a slow end to the season. It also didn’t help that McLaren was disqualified in the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Norris will now drive the No. 1 car in 2026, and he has earned the right to represent the car number.
