TEANECK, New Jersey (WABC) — A large branch fell from a tree hitting two pedestrians and a vehicle in Teaneck, New Jersey.
It happened on Sussex Road at Churchill Road on Thursday morning.
"Boom! The house was shaking, I thought it was an earthquake," said Inna Rossina, a Teaneck resident.
The rumble on Sussex Road was a huge tree limb giving way at the exact time when several people were passing by, walking and driving.
"This morning, we had pedestrians walking here on the roadway and unfortunately a large limb came off of a plywood tree here in Teaneck. We had two injuries, non-life-threatening, taken to the hospital," said Jaclyn Hashmat, Teaneck Township Manager. "There was a very large limb that fell off a tree. it did come down and also hit a vehicle, a tesla, with two passengers."
Rossina immediately called for help.
"I tried to call 911. I saw people running. It came to my mind that two cars collided because I saw the car on the side of the street," she said.
It just so happened that a crew from a tree service was in the area, got wind of the emergency, and rushed over to clear the branch from the car where a father and his daughter were trapped.
Two women in their 30s were seriously injured. All are expected to recover.
"We are just fortunate that the injuries are not as severe as we were originally worried. We are being told it's non-life-threatening, so that's good. We are going to take the steps necessary ensuring the safety of the area by removing the tree, in coordination with the homeowners," said Chief Andrew McGurr, Teaneck Police Department.
The branch is believed to have fallen from natural causes.
