LEGO has added another iconic vehicle to its Speed Champions collection, and this time it’s a fictional car. Lightning McQueen from the Cars film trilogy has been added to this LEGO collection, making it stand alongside other iconic racing vehicles, such as those featured in 2025’s F1 roster, the cars seen in the Fast and the Furious franchise, and other motorized classics.
With a listed price of $27.99, the Lightning McQueen LEGO set features 270 pieces, allowing fans to build the iconic Cars character in brick form. This set is part of the show’s upcoming 20th anniversary, as it’s scheduled to come out on January 1, 2026. When fully built, the car is set to measure 4cm high, 14 cm long, and 7 cm wide. Pre-orders are now open on the LEGO website, so now is a good time to bring home a piece of Disney history to your home.
This isn’t the first time LEGO has released a car set. Lightning McQueen and his friends in Radiator Springs, Arizona, have all been turned into LEGO sets in the past, whether that be the various locations the sentient machines have visited, character sets, or individual vehicle builds.
Released on June 9, 2025, Cars takes place in an alternate universe filled with anthropomorphic vehicles that can operate independently of humans. It stars Owen Wilson as Lightning McQueen, a race car with a self-centered attitude, who finds his way to Radiator Springs when he was supposed to go to California in hopes of winning the Piston Cup. During his time in this town, he learns that it was once a bustling area until the construction of the interstate led to a decline in business. He also learns a valuable lesson about friendship and teamwork.
Cars was a massive success upon its release, generating over $461 million at the box office worldwide, earning high praise from fans and critics alike, and spawning sequels and spin-offs that expanded the Cars universe, but came with mixed results in terms of box office numbers and audience and critics’ scores. Additionally, Cars received numerous accolades as it was nominated for “Best Animated Feature” at the 2007 Academy Awards, but lost to Happy Feet. It won “Best Song” at the Grammy Awards for “Our Town” by Randy Newman, and won a handful of Annie Awards, including “Best Animated Feature.”
The Cars franchise is available to stream on Disney+.
