An investigation is underway after a body was found inside a vehicle in Porthcawl following a fire. Emergency services were called to what has been described as a "fire incident" involving multiple vehicles in Mackworth Road in the early hours of Thursday morning (August 28).
Once the fire was extinguished, emergency personnel found a deceased person inside one of the vehicles. Formal identification has yet to be carried out. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire, a spokeswoman for South Wales Police said.
A resident of Mackworth Road, who asked to remain anonymous, said they heard "loud bangs" just before 3am this morning. They assumed it was rides being dismantled in the nearby fair as they said rides had recently been moved at night, before they saw the news of the fire earlier today.
A cordon remains in place in the area while investigations are carried out. Forensic officers have been on scene to collect evidence.

The latest update from police said: "A cordon remains in place both ways from Bungalow Avenue, which is about halfway down Mackworth Road, to the bottom of Mackworth Road by the beach. There is also no pedestrian access across Mackworth Road from the Hi Tide complex to Coney Beach amusement park."
According to their Facebook page, the nearby Coney Beach amusement park is closed today due to the weather.
Photos taken at Mackworth Road show investigations continuing at the scene earlier today. A cordon is in place while officers in forensic suits gather evidence.
A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said the cause of the fire was undetermined.
Forensic officers and the crime scene investigation unit from South Wales Police are at Mackworth Road conducting enquires. A number of vehicles look to have been completely destroyed by the fire.
It appears the incident occurred just off the seafront, near to where a number of food and ice cream huts are located.

Mackworth Road is located near Porthcawl seafront. There are a number of homes along the road, which leads to the back of Coney Beach Amusement Park as well as The Hi Tide Inn seafront bar.

South Wales Police was called at 2.50am this morning, Thursday August 28, by South Wales Fire and Rescue Service reporting a fire incident involving multiple vehicles on Mackworth Road in Porthcawl.
