LIVONIA, Mich. – Livonia Police used a grappler device to stop a stolen Chevrolet Cruze on I-96 and Farmington Road.
The grappler is a safety tool that deploys a high-strength net around a vehicle’s rear tire and axle, bringing the vehicle to a controlled stop within seconds.

At around 7:30 on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025, Metro South troopers spotted a stolen car in Detroit and followed it westbound into Livonia.
As the driver tried to flee, Livonia officers deployed their grappler, effectively disabling the vehicle.
Despite their attempts to escape, the 27-year-old male driver from Brighton and his two female passengers were arrested.
The driver faces charges for possession of the stolen car and a probation violation warrant, while the passengers were found to have multiple warrants from different jurisdictions.
“We continue to use technology to find and stop criminals in our communities,” said Lt. Mike Shaw. “Thanks to the Livonia Police Department and their grappler device, these suspects are now in jail without the need for a pursuit.”
