January is a great time to shop for a used car. Dealers are trying to clear out older inventory, and shoppers may find better prices than other times of the year. But new data shows that the state you live in can also make a big difference in how good of a deal you get. For drivers in New York, one popular SUV is standing out for all the right reasons.
A new study found that the Nissan Rogue is the best value used car in New York State. On average, used Rogues in New York are nearly 5 percent cheaper than the national average price for the same vehicle.
Buying a used car instead of a new one can help lower your monthly payments. Used cars also lose value slower, which can help if you plan to sell or trade it in later. Insurance and taxes can be cheaper on used vehicles too.
One reason is that vehicles today have more technology and safety features. Supply problems and trade costs can also play a role. Over the past five years, the overall cost of owning and driving a car in the U.S. has gone up by more than 40 percent.
To figure out which used cars offer the best value in each state, Net Credit looked at nearly 300,000 used car listings across the country. They focused on the 25 best selling vehicles and compared prices from large cities in every state. Then they compared local prices to the national average to see which models were cheaper or more expensive depending on where you live.
If you are shopping for a used car in New York, especially an SUV, the Nissan Rogue may be worth a close look. With prices lower than the national average, it could offer you a great value. As always, it helps to compare prices, check vehicle history reports, and get a mechanic to look at the car before buying.
