A car fire saw the M25 blocked as traffic was held on Saturday (December 6). It happened on the M25 clockwise.
Traffic monitoring site Inrix said shortly before 4pm: "One lane closed and slow traffic due to earlier car fire on M25 clockwise from J26 A121 (Waltham Abbey) to J27 (M11 Interchange). Lane one (of four) remains closed. Ongoing since around 13:45."
Traffic was held in both directions while emergency services attended the scene. The fire service and police have been contacted for more information.
National Highways has issued an update after a car fire that saw part of the M25 closed this afternoon.
A spokesperson said:
1 (of 4) lanes are closed on the M25 clockwise between J25 (Waltham Cross) and J27 (M11) following a car fire.
National Highways Traffic Officers are currently on scene dealing with traffic management
Traffic is now moving past the scene of the car fire.
EssexLive has been sent a photograph of the car, which is believed to have been a Porsche.
The fire service and police have been contacted for more information.
The latest update from traffic monitoring service Inrix said:
M25 clockwise closed, severe delays due to car fire from J25 A10 Great Cambridge Road (Enfield) to J27 (M11 Interchange).
Trapped traffic is being released past the scene. Ongoing since around 13:45, with the closure being extended back to J25 because J26 is a restricted junction.
Diversion – via the Hollow Triangle symbol along the A10 south and on to the A406 North Circular before travelling along the M11 Northbound.
The M25 which borders Hertfordshire/Essex is closed clockwise between J25 (Waltham Cross) and J27 (M11) due to a car fire, National Highways has confirmed.
Essex Fire and Police are on scene. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene to assist with traffic managment.
Diversion Route
Traffic should follow the route marked with a hollow triangle symbol on local road signs:
A National Highways spokesperson said:
If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.

The road was blocked at around 13:45. The opposite side has been released.
Traffic cameras show that firefighters remain at the scene. It is not clear from the cameras whether other emergency services have attended.
There are huge queues of traffic on the M25 while emergency services respond to an earlier car fire.
One person stuck in traffic told EssexLive they had not moved for 20 minutes.
