THE M60 has been shut in both directions this evening after a “serious” crash involving a car and a bike.
The collision happened near Swinton, Greater Manchester, at around 6.30pm, prompting emergency services to rush to the scene.
The motorway is currently closed between Junction 15 for the M61 and Swinton Interchange, and Junction 16 for the A666 Manchester Road.
Motorists are currently stuck in a closure on the clockwise carriageway, with National Highways confirming that the motorway will remain fully closed for “several hours” following the collision.
All traffic has been stopped on both carriageways while police and National Highways officers deal with the incident.
There are “severe delays”, with congestion backed up from J15 to J16 and further delays reported on the anticlockwise side stretching to J18 for Simister Island.
Traffic cameras show long queues and heavy congestion as drivers remain at a standstill.
National Highways said the motorway is closed due to a “serious” collision between a car and a bike.
No further details have been released at this stage, but drivers are being urged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes while the incident is being dealt with.
It comes as three people were taken to hospital after a serious crash brought Bristol city centre to a standstill.
Emergency services were called to Plimsoll Swing Bridge, Brunel Way, shortly before 12:20pm yesterday following a collision involving two cars and a van.
Police said one person suffered potentially life-threatening injuries, while another was seriously hurt.
The A3029 Brunel Way was closed between the A370 and Bristol Gate, causing severe congestion across the city.
Police have launched an investigation and urged anyone with dashcam footage to contact them on 101, quoting reference 5225285521.
