Mafia: The Old Country is about to receive a slew of fresh features with the release of its Free Ride update, slated to go live today, November 20.
Its main feature is the eponymous Free Ride mode, which replaces the Explore mode available in the game at launch. In doing so, it “offers new ways to experience Mafia: The Old Country’s vision of 1900s Sicily, letting you explore the environment at your own pace and take on a series of new challenges.”
Mafia: The Old Country Free Ride Update
Although Mafia: The Old Country’s Free Ride mode does introduce new content, publisher 2K stresses that it “does not have any bearing on the narrative aspects of Enzo’s journey.”
The challenges it brings are, however, unlocked based on how far we progress through its main story.
“You can jump between the campaign and Free Ride via the pause and main menus as you make your way through the story, or you can wait until you’ve finished every Chapter so you can embark into Free Ride with all starting Challenges available; the choice is yours,” the publisher explains in a post on Steam.
Challenges – which revolve around racing and combat – have three tiers, each one rewarding higher amounts of Dinari to spend at Pasquale’s store. Completing challenges also unlocks new purchasable items.
Once Mafia: The Old World’s Free Ride update releases, talking to Pasquale allows us to initiate a series of car races, while Gaspare lets us put our horse riding skills to the test across fifteen challenges.
Valerio then gives us a choice between timed horde mode gauntlets and stealth-focused combat challenges. Mafia: The Old World’s Free Ride update also adds the following items:
- 16 new outfits
- 3 new hats
- 4 new knives
- 3 new guns
- 3 new charms
- 2 new cars
In addition, first-person driving, a photo mode, alongside classic difficulty and the Cinema Siciliano mode – that evokes classic Italian gangster movies – are also part of Mafia: The Old World’s Free Ride update, offering a compelling argument for revisiting the title.
