MOTORISTS are facing major delays on the M25 following a car fire.
Traffic is currently stopped on the anti-clockwise lane within the J24 at Potters Bar, Hertfordshire.
The J24 was closed at around 3pm, with traffic diverted via the exit and entry slip roads.
It has since been reopened.
Lanes one and two remain closed for vehicle recovery and clear up works.
Drivers can expect around four miles of congestion, causing delays of 60 minutes.
An update on Traffic England said that the incident is expected to clear between 6:15pm and 6:30pm, with traffic conditions returning to normal.
However, National Highways have not yet confirmed a time for re-opening.
National Highways: East wrote on X: "The M25 anti-clockwise within J24 PottersBar is now OPEN following a car fire.
"Lanes 1 and 2 remain CLOSED for vehicle recovery and clear up works.
"There are currently delays of 60 mins and approx. 4 miles of congestion."
Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance as they tackle the fire.
Pictures of the junction show at least two fire engines in attendance, with a number of emergency vehicles present.
It comes as thousands of Brits hit the road this Bank Holiday weekend.
On Friday, hundreds of cars could be seen queuing at the Port of Dover.
An estimated 17.6 million drivers are set to make journeys between Friday and Monday.
Those using the M25 could now face even more delays as a result of the ongoing incident.
As of 4pm, lane two was reopened, with delays being reduced to less than ten minutes.
