A man has been arrested after a woman was allegedly falsely imprisoned in a car in Kerry today.
The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday morning along Clieveragh Road, on the outskirts of Listowel. Gardaí are asking the public to help them track the movements of a white Audi A4 saloon in connection with the incident.
It's understood that the woman was out walking late at night when the car pulled up beside her. The driver allegedly exited the vehicle and forced her inside. Fortunately, the woman then managed to escape from the car and alert Gardaí patrolling in the area, according to reports from The Kerryman.
A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment, and he is currently being held at a Garda Station in the Southern Region.
Gardaí are looking to establish a timeline of the vehicle's movements, and anyone who witnessed suspicious behaviour in the area overnight has been asked to come forward. Gardaí are particularly interested in videos or dash-cam footage taken in the area between 2 and 4 am.
A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are investigating an alleged incident of false imprisonment of a woman in a vehicle in Listowel, Co Kerry this morning, Sunday 28th September 2025. The incident occurred on Clieveragh Road on the outskirts of Listowel town centre at approximately 3:20 am.
"A man, aged in his 20s, was arrested in connection with this investigation and has been detained at a Garda Station in the Southern Region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
"Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward. Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were in the area between Listowel town centre and the R552 Clieveragh Road between 2:00 am and 4:00 am to make this footage available to Gardaí. Gardaí are particularly interested in the movements of a white Audi A4 saloon vehicle during this period."
