A man has died following a serious road traffic collision in Co Waterford in the early hours of this morning.
Gardai and the emergency services raced to the scene following reports that a car had struck a pedestrian on the R448 in Sallypark, Waterford, shortly before 2.10am.
Despite the best efforts of the medical personnel, the pedestrian, a man aged in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Coroner has been notified and a post mortem examination will take place in due course.
The driver of the car, a man aged in his 20s, was uninjured in the incident.
The road – on the R448 from Rice’s Bridge to the New Rath Road roundabout – remains closed this morning to allow Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carry out a technical examination of the scene.
Local diversions are in place and motorists have been urged to avoid the area if possible.
Gardai have launched an investigation into the fatal road traffic collision and area appealing for witnesses to come forward.
A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on the R448 in Sallypark, Waterford, Co. Waterford this morning, Sunday 23rd November 2025.
"Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene after a car struck a pedestrian shortly before 2:10am.
"The male pedestrian, aged in his 40s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
"Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
"Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R448 between 1:30am and 2:15am are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051 305300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
