WHITEFIELD, Maine (WGME) — A Maine man is dead after his car landed upside down in a river in Whitefield.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office responded to a crash near Pittston Road just before noon on Thursday.
Deputies say a Toyota Camry driven by 67-year-old Chris Conary of Alna went through the intersection with Pittston Road and hit a snowbank, causing the car to go airborne. The car then hit a parked car before landing upside down in the adjacent river.
According to deputies, the car was in about five feet of water, and first responders were unable to get to Conary out of the vehicle.
Conary, who was the only person in the car, died at the scene.
Deputies say Conary was wearing his seat belt.
The Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating whether Conary had a medical event prior to the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
