The crash happened on an unclassified road near St Andrews in Fife
A 47-year-old man has died following a crash involving a van and a parked car in Fife on New Year's Day.
Police were called to an unclassified road near Stonywynd in Boarhills, near St Andrews, at about 17:55 on Thursday.
Officers said the driver of a white Mercedes Sprinter van was pronounced dead at the scene after the van collided with a parked and unattended Skoda Fabia.
Sgt Fraser Mitchell, from Livingston road policing, urged anyone with information to come forward – particularly two men who went to help the driver.
He added: "We are in the process of establishing the full circumstances and I would ask anyone who may have seen the Mercedes van before the crash, and is yet to speak to police, to contact us, external."
The road was closed for investigation and reopened at about 22:25.
