The crash happened on the eastbound carriageway of the A421 just before the Shortstown and A600 junction
A man has died after his car crashed on a dual carriageway near a town.
Bedfordshire Police was called just after 17:00 BST on Friday to reports of a collision involving a grey Mercedes on the eastbound carriageway of the A421 near Bedford.
The incident took place close to the junction for Shortstown and A600 and the driver – a man in his 60s – was pronounced dead at the scene.
The East of England Air Ambulance attended the incident and the road was temporarily closed eastbound between the junctions for Elstow and Shortstown.
Sgt David McIlwhan, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: "First and foremost, our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this tragic time.
"We are aware that a number of people may have witnessed the incident or have dashcam footage, and we are asking them to get in touch as soon as possible as this may assist us with our investigation."
