SINGAPORE, Oct 31 — A man has died after his car caught fire on the Tampines Expressway (TPE) in the early hours of today.
According to The Straits Times (ST), the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to an alert at approximately 2.55am, reporting a fire along the TPE towards the Seletar Expressway (SLE), near the exit to the Central Expressway (CTE).
SCDF confirmed that a man, believed to be the driver of a BMW 520i, was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic.
The car fire was extinguished using a water jet, ST reported.
A Land Transport Authority (LTA) alert posted on social media platform X around 6.20am reported the closure of the SLE exit due to the incident. Shortly after, another LTA update confirmed the closure of the CTE exit, which remained shut until approximately 9.20am.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and the paper has contacted the police for further information regarding the incident.
A video posted on the Roads.sg Facebook page showed the car, overturned and engulfed in flames, with SCDF firefighters on the scene battling the fire.
