A man has been hit by a car in Aintree this evening. Emergency services were called to Warbreck Moor, near the junction with Albany Road, at around 5pm today, November 4, following reports of a collision involving a Vauxhall Astra and a male pedestrian.
A witness at the scene said a man was taken away in an ambulance, although police have not yet provided an update on the extent of his injuries. Photos from the scene show a cordon in place and a significant police presence in the area.
Police said road closures are currently in place in the local area and have advised motorists to avoid Warbreck Moor due to severe congestion.
Traffic monitoring service Inrix reported the A59 Warbreck Moor is closed in both directions between Melling Avenue and Longmoor Lane, with traffic described as "slow" and "gridlocked".
The closure has also caused disruption to bus services. Arriva North West confirmed that routes 63, 300, 310 and 345 are being diverted away from Warbreck Moor and Black Bull, and will instead operate via Park Lane, Southport Road and Hornby Road.
A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We are dealing with an RTC involving a Vauxhall Astra and a male pedestrian at the junction of Warbreck Moor/Albany Road.
"We were called at 5pm. Road closures in local area.
"No updates on any injuries at this time."
Motorists are being asked to avoid the area and find alternative routes while emergency services remain at the scene.
