A man was killed on the ritzy streets of Beverly Hills after a lunatic driver beat him with a metal object and ran him over, dragging his body as horrified witnesses looked on, police said.
Cops were called to the scene shortly after 12:30 p.m. Friday after receiving calls about an assault with a weapon near Wilshire and San Vicente boulevards, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The victim and attacker had been beefing before the suspect bashed him with a metal object, police said.
The alleged killer, identified as Christopher Cornelius, 54, then ran the man over with the victim’s own car, ABC 7 reported.
“The relationship between the suspect and the victim is unknown at this time and the suspect’s identification is pending as this is an active and ongoing investigation,” a statement from the BHPD read.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where he died as a result of his injuries.
Graphic video circulating on social media appeared to show the brutal attack, with witnesses in the background heard gasping in terror.
BHPD officers taped off the northwest corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Hamilton Drive and found the suspect in a nearby structure. Cornelius, of San Bernardino, was arrested without incident, and booked on murder charges. His bail was set at $2 million.
Police said Cornelius has an “extensive criminal record,” including violent crimes, ABC 7 reported.
According to data released by the Beverly Hills Police Department, total reported crimes in the city declined by approximately 14% in 2024 compared to the previous year.
Violent crime, including robbery and assault, also trended downward, with just seven incidents reported in December 2024 and no homicides. Residential burglary, though, has seen a spike in the area.
