A 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor has become a clear example of car depreciation in the used trucks market.
Bought new for about $60,000, the pickup was sold at a truck auction for $54,500 with only 2,014 miles.
The result marked a $5,500 drop in less than a year.
It also points to how quickly values change once trucks are sold into the used market.

The 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor carried an MSRP of $59,955 and used a 405-horsepower twin-turbo V6 engine.
The example sold came in Velocity Blue Metallic with an Ebony interior, 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels, and LED headlights and taillights.
Inside, it featured a 12-inch touchscreen, heated seats, and driver assistance technology.
The seller had added a Ford Performance ECU tune, grille lights, and a tonneau cover.
It sold for $54,500 at auction. That was about $5,500 under its purchase price and close to other sales of similar trucks.
In the used trucks market, Ranger Raptors with low mileage now sit between $54,000 and $56,000.
Vehicles generally lose the steepest portion of their value during the first year of ownership, and the Ford Ranger Raptor is following that pattern.
Even performance pickups priced at the top of their segment are seeing the same early losses.
Depreciation data shows why buyers often wait for low-mileage examples to appear at auction.
Sellers take the initial financial hit, while second owners can secure a vehicle in nearly new condition for several thousand dollars less.
The Ford Ranger Raptor sale is a straightforward demonstration of that balance.
The auction result also reflects current pricing trends.
After years of inflated values caused by supply shortages, used trucks are moving closer to their original sticker prices.
Depreciation has re-emerged as a central part of ownership costs.
Shoppers with budgets in the $55,000 to $60,000 range may also compare a 2021 or 2022 F-150 Raptor.
Those trucks are larger, with more towing ability, but typically carry higher mileage.
The Ford Ranger Raptor fills the midsize niche, offering capability at a smaller scale, but with the same exposure to car depreciation.
Market analysts have pointed out that trucks once considered safe from steep early losses are now trending in line with wider automotive averages.
The Ranger Raptor is in high demand, but demand alone has not been enough to offset car depreciation once mileage is added.
That signals a return to more predictable market behavior after several years of unusual pricing.
Buyers now have more opportunities to find low-mileage pickups at prices below MSRP.
Sellers face the familiar problem of sharp value drops in the first year.
The 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor auction result is one more sign that even the most in-demand models lose ground once they enter the used trucks market.
