A man has been taken to a London hospital following a crash between a car and a mobility scooter.
Emergency crews, including critical care paramedics and the air ambulance, were called to Royal Engineers Road in Maidstone just before 1pm today (November 21).
They assessed and treated the man on the mobility scooter at the scene, before he was then taken by road to King’s College Hospital in London with serious injuries.
Royal Engineers Road was closed in both directions at the roundabout junction with Stacey Street and Fairmeadow due to the accident on the southbound carriageway.
The road has since reopened northbound.
However, one lane remains close headed southbound, between Chatham Road and Stacey Street, to allow for ongoing recovery works.
Northbound delays have now fully cleared but delays remain on the southbound approach.
Drivers are being asked to use alternate routes where possible and are being told to expect long delays in the surrounding area.
Congestion is understood to be backed up to Saint Peter’s Bridge for traffic heading out of the town.
