Early Mercedes-Benz G-Class cabriolets have become wildly expensive and desirable, despite their funky proportions. The hardtop G-wagen remains a popular SUV today, despite the fact that most spend their time commuting around coastal towns, but to keep things interesting, Mercedes is bringing the droptop back. The automaker announced the return of the G-Class Cabriolet, teasing the blocky convertible with a single shadowy profile image.
We can’t see much of the new open-top SUV, but it appears to have the previous cabriolet’s roof style. The last droptop G-wagen came way back in 2018, with the Maybach G650, which cost more than a half-million dollars when it was new. The open-top design still looked odd with the Maybach version, so the new model will likely retain at least some of the now-beloved awkwardness.
Mercedes hasn’t detailed any of the new model’s specs or features, but it wouldn’t be out of the question to see a mild-hybrid powertrain or another electrified variant close to its launch. It may also arrive as a limited-edition upgrade to the G-Class line, which would mean an exclusive price. The G-Class cabriolet doesn’t have a solid release date yet, but Mercedes updated the standard SUV for 2025, opening the door for a 2026 release.

G-Class….somebody say something good about this baffling accoutrement of global militaries.
A friend of mine has a Hummer SUT which he purchased at the fire sale, it seems Mercedes finally got around to cloning one.
