GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) -Departments in Mesa County are set to get new equipment. Mesa County Commissioners approved the budget for replacement vehicles and equipment in Mesa County.
The approved budget is worth $2.46 million. Around 25 vehicles and equipment will be replaced, ranging from things like pickup trucks and dump trucks to a prisoner transport unit for the Sheriff’s Office.
“Hopefully, we’ll save some dollars on repairs. Some of this equipment, there’s a point where its service life and the cost of maintaining it really become a liability,” said Eric Brown, the Fleet Supervisor for Mesa County.
The new vehicles and equipment will include new up to date safety features.
“They’re a lot safer; they meet EPA standards. They also are more dependable and should need less maintenance,” said Brown.
According to Brown, some of the new vehicles and equipment should be put to use in the next couple of months, and some will start being used in 2026.
