Mitsubishi will reveal a new electrified SUV concept at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo later this month.
The teaser doesn't show much, but it does reveal a futuristic look and plenty of ground clearance.
It's unclear if the powertrain is entirely electric or a hybrid of some sort.
The Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo is just around the corner, and automakers are starting to preview the flashy new cars that will debut later this month. Toyota has a whole host of wild rides planned, from a futuristic Corolla concept to a six-wheeled Lexus van and a luxurious Century coupe. Mazda, meanwhile, will show a sleek sedan concept, while Subaru is planning a pair of STI performance concepts, one gas-powered and one electric. Now it's Mitsubishi's turn, with the company teasing a new SUV concept that will be unveiled in Tokyo.
The teaser doesn't reveal much about the car, with only the rear end visible at the edge of the image. The SUV appears to be tailored towards off-roading, with chunky-looking tires and lots of ground clearance. A simple LED light bar seems to stretch across the rear of the vehicle, while the roofline dips down after the rear wheels.
Mitsubishi describes the concept as "electrified," leaving us guessing as to whether it is a fully electric vehicle or features some sort of hybrid powertrain. The company says that "electrification and all-wheel control technologies" make the concept well-suited to tackling any sort of terrain, and Mitsubishi also touts a roomy cabin with "a luxurious in-car sleeping environment that turns any destination into a glamping retreat."
We'll have to wait another couple of weeks before we get to see what Mitsubishi has cooked up, but the brand has shown a recently renewed interest in off-roading. A Trail Edition joined the 2025 Outlander lineup, and while it is mostly just an appearance package, Mitsubishi just confirmed that it's working on a more serious off-road-oriented Outlander that will debut next year. Mitsubishi has also been working on a boxy new SUV that appears to use a body-on-frame platform, with trademark filings pointing to a revival of the Montero nameplate.
