New car sales to start again after a five-year break, but don’t get your hopes up for the return of the Evo
New Mitsubishi cars will be sold in Britain again, starting next summer.
The vehicle importer, International Motors, announced the news today, ending what has been a near five-year hiatus.
It has not been confirmed which new models will be offered, but International Motors has said they will be “drawn from Mitsubishi Motors’ global lineup” and “will bring the brand’s latest advancements in innovation and four-wheel drive technologies”.
Mitsubishi stopped selling new cars in Britain in the autumn of 2021, after struggling for sales and profits. The brand has kept a presence in the UK through a network of more than 100 aftersales centres. Some of these will be appointed to handle sales as well as servicing when new car sales recommence in the summer of 2026.
The head of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, Sharon Townsend, said: “We’re delighted to be introducing exciting new Mitsubishi vehicles to our loyal UK customers. Over the past few years, we’ve continued to see enthusiasm for the brand, which has strongly influenced this decision. By building on our trusted aftersales network and dedicated retailer partners, we are committed to providing an exceptional ownership experience.”

The new car landscape looks very different today compared with 2021. The last year Mitsubishi sold new cars in the UK, battery electric vehicles made up 11.6% of the market. Last month that figure was 25.4%.
So, it makes sense for Mitsubishi to return with at least one electric car. The Eclipse Cross looks a strong candidate. This family SUV is effectively a rebadged Renault Scenic SUV. The Eclipse Cross is to be made in a Renault factory in France, simplifying the brand’s relaunch in Europe and Britain.
The Eclipse Cross isn’t the only European-made Mitsubishi that could be coming to Britain. The latest Colt small hatchback is a close relative of the Renault Clio, while the ASX is based upon the Renault Captur.
International Motors’ announcement referred to Mitsubishi’s four-wheel drive tech, so at least one of the new model line-up looks set to be a 4×4. That suggests the latest Outlander plug-in hybrid will be part of the new 2026 model range.
