A New Smyrna Beach man driving a motorcycle was killed Saturday, Nov. 8, after crashing on State Road 415 while trying to pass traffic in a no-passing zone, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The unidentified man, 58, was riding northbound behind a Subaru Legacy around noon near Ashby Cove Lane, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The motorcyclist went to pass in a no-passing zone and hit the Subaru that was turning onto Ashby Cove Lane.
The motorcycle hit the left side of the Subaru, ran off the road, overturned and hit a utility box. The driver was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. He was not wearing a helmet.
The driver of the Subaru had minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
