A motorist was killed Saturday morning in a crash on Highway 101 headed north near Castillo Street in Santa Barbara, according to the Santa Barbara City Fire Department.
The crash happened shortly after 6:30 a.m. under foggy conditions, according to the California Highway Patrol. A silver sedan overturned and landed near the bushes on the shoulder, just past the Castillo offramp.
The victim, who was declared dead at the scene, was ejected from the vehicle onto the center lane.
Several vehicles ran over the man who was lying in the roadway, said fire Battalion Chief Brandon Paige.
“It was a gruesome deal,” Paige said.
Two other vehicles then collided. Their occupants suffered minor injuries, but declined medical treatment, Paige said.
The man’s name was not released pending notification of relatives.
