Whangārei motorists are being turned around by police after a reported car fire down a roadside bank.
The car is believed to be down a bank near Scott Rd in Tamaterau, Whangārei Heads.
Hato Hone St John said there were no patients involved in the incident.
Residents reported
Police told the Northern Advocate they were at the scene but were unable to provide any further details as the incident was unfolding.
Firefighters also attended.
Vehicles headed into town are being turned around at Scott Rd, whereas motorists travelling to Whangārei Heads are being turned around near Tamaterau Beach.
Traffic is being sent over Mt Tiger, which connects to Whangārei Heads Rd in Parua Bay, and Whareora Rd on the town side.
Motorists said they were being told they would be waiting for a while.
A Whangārei Heads resident reported traffic was backed up in both directions.
