The fire and rescue department said an operations team from its Paya Terubong unit managed to trace six car owners and asked them to remove their vehicles.
“There were 12 vehicles at the parking lot. Six were quickly removed, but the team was trying to locate the other owners,” it said, adding that the area had been cordoned off.
Penang fire and rescue department director Shoki Hamzah told FMT the department was monitoring soil movement in the landslide area and reaching out to several agencies for assistance.
Separately, the state disaster management secretariat said three districts had been affected by floods – the Barat Daya district on the island, and Seberang Perai Utara and Seberang Perai Tengah on the mainland.
Six temporary flood relief centres have been opened, with 743 victims from 201 families taking shelter in them.
FMT reported earlier today that several landslips had occurred around Penang island since Oct 21.
The affected areas included Pearl Hill 3 (Tanjung Tokong), Miami Green 1 (Batu Ferringhi), Puncak Bukit Mutiara, the Air Itam dam, Jalan Paya Terubong, Jalan Teluk Bahang, the Dua Residensi apartments in Teluk Kumbar, and Bukit Belah.
Jalan Tun Sardon, the main road connecting Balik Pulau and Relau, was closed off for 48 hours after seven landslips took place there following heavy rain yesterday.
The worst of the seven landslips occurred near the Anjung Indah lookout point at about 5pm, but no injuries were reported.
